Argyle-Gate!:First Lady Michelle Obama Visits Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Schoo- Sandra Rose Compliments (kinda) Sweater While Others Savage – But Did They Listen to What She had to SAY as She Fought Back Tears???

I must admit I approached First Lady Michelle Obama’s visit to London with some trepidation. Not because I thought the First Lady would not be as well received as she has been, but because she was headed to the home turf of our favorite cyber-auntie, Sandra Rose. Sandra was born and raised in the UK.

Sandra’s reviews were mixed this week and she caused a minor heart murmur with this week’s April Fool’s joke, but she closed out the First Lady’s visit with a compliment… to her sweater when she visited school girls at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Language School in London today.:) :

First Lady Michelle Obama visited schoolgirls at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Language School in London today. She’s so pretty. I LOVE that sweater! The green shoes don’t match anything she’s wearing, but we’ll let that slide. Sandra Rose

Yes! BTW I think those are the inauguration day green kitten pumps. Correct me if I am wrong fashionistas.

At least I think it was a compliment, unless it wasn’t because later in the day Sandra defended her coverage of the First Lady to her loyal readers:

Some of you criticize me for being unkind to our First Lady, but you should take a trip to the other side sometime and see what “they” are saying about her. The “other” bloggers are tearing her to shreds.

At least I keep it real, but they really go in on your girl. For instance, Hollywood Dame had this to say about Michelle’s J Crew argyle sweater, which I LOVE — but she hates:

“Then the First Lady wore another awful cardigan that clashed blues with her dress. J. Crew is never acceptable for a meeting-the-Queen-wear. She even missed a button on the sweater and looks like a kindergartner who needs help. Someone needs to let her in on the secret that argyle and sequins are horrid combination.”

I will remain mute about the sweater because I remember the backlash when I offered my 2 cents about that Narcisso Rodriguez “lava lamp” dress. I’m still recovering. Sandra isn’t nearly as hard on First lady Obama as she is on President Obama and poor Desiree Rogers. I think we can count this as a small victory.

IN other news, here is what the First Lady had to SAY as opposed to talking about what she WORE.

As the First Lady fought back tears, she called the girls precious diamonds and said that they touched her heart.

She told them: “We are counting on every single one of you to be the best that you can be.”

In a brief speech to about 100 pupils she she spoke of her working class upbringing in the Southside of Chicago, saying she was “an example of what is possible when girls from the very beginning of their lives are loved and nurtured by people around them”.

She went on: “I was surrounded by extraordinary women in my life who taught me about quiet strength and dignity.

“You too can control your own destiny, please remember that.

“Whether you come from a council estate or a country estate, your success will be determined by your own confidence and fortitude.

“It won’t be easy, that’s for sure, but you have everything you need. Everything you need you already have right here.

“We are counting on you, we are counting on every single one of you to be the best that you can be.

“We know you can do it, we love you, thank you so much.” SOURCE
